NonWoodHouse™ is a New Jersey based startup company specializing in energy efficient full masonry houses. NonWoodHouse™ manufactures, stocks, and supplies most of the key components and materials needed for building this type of house from our location in Pennsylvania. It also supplies technology, training, technical support, and licenses for specialized contractors. These houses are fireproof, termiteproof, energy efficient, provide excellent sound reduction, and have longevity beyond anybody’s expectations.
These advantages come with a cost. It is more expensive and takes more time and expertise to build this type of house as compared to traditional wood frame houses.
FOR A LIMITED TIME, with wood prices soaring, NonWoodHouse™ is offering a promotion to build these houses for a lower price than an equivalent traditional house. This offer includes a finished house shell, examples of which can be seen in the photos on this page. It also includes walls and floors prepared for installation of plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, interior finishes, doors, etc., which can be done in the traditional way.
A masonry elevator shaft is constructed from the basement through the garage level, first floor, second floor, and attic level. An elevator can easily be installed inside this shaft.
NonWoodHouse™ complies with all existing building codes and provides necessary submittals. All materials, components, specialized tools, windows, thin bed mortars, exterior finishes, sills, sealants, roof coverings, etc., are shipped to the house in sequence as building progresses. There is no need to go to a lumber yard or masonry yard.
Walls are made of thick autoclaved cellular concrete blocks and are load bearing. These Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks have very high insulating value, exceeding requirements for energy efficient houses. Blocks can also be manufactured even thicker and meet the requirements for “zero energy” houses, also known as “passive houses.”
Floors are made of concrete elements and are load bearing. Traditional structural wooden interior floors are also available; they are not exposed to the exterior and do not penetrate the masonry walls.
Walls are finished with limestone textured plaster. Three architectural styles are available:
- Contemporary style
- Modern style of “BriquePierre” with a mix of clay brick, sandstone and plaster elements
- Carea PIERRE DU SUD mineral panels manufactured in France
Triple or double glass windows.
Invisible pocket metal shutters can optionally also be installed inside the wall assembly with realistic window images on the shutter surfaces. These shutters can help protect against fires, hurricanes, and tornadoes.
Flame Deflector™ assembly protects the part of the building most vulnerable to fire and has an ornamental limestone texture. They can be installed on traditional houses as well.
Prefabricated roof structure is made of lightweight cold formed metal (CFS) or traditional wood frame.
Roof cover is made of metal “clay” panels, ceramic tiles, shingles, or Tesla Roof solar tiles.
Negative Pitch Stairs™: these prefabricated granite stairs decrease risk of the foot slipping outward. The negative pitch also reduces water, ice, or snow accumulation by causing water to drain towards the back of each step and off to the ground rather than cascading down all of the steps successively. They can be installed on traditional houses or other buildings as well.
Interior floors can accept the AirInFloor™ heating system, an economical and risk free alternative to hydronic heating. No air mixing throughout the house. Recommended air conditioning system with no air mixing as well.
The construction process for building walls out of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete blocks can be seen in this video.
This enlarged photo of AAC shows its sponge-like skeleton. The mineral composition of this skeleton is similar to limestone. The whole material looks like pumice.
The manufacturing of AAC resembles the baking of bread. Clean milled silica sand is mixed with lime and aerating agent. It rises due to aeration and becomes firm enough to cut and form into desired elements. Afterwards, it is baked in high pressure steam in a big autoclave (industrial pressure steam cooker). After a few hours it is ready for cooling and shipment. It is light enough to float on water.
Termites become more active from year to year. Chemicals to treat or prevent infestations can infiltrate or be blown into your house.
Did you know that most insecticides kill by means of reacting with insects’ nervous systems? Humans share many genes even with insects. Some studies have shown a connection between exposure to pesticides and Parkinson’s disease.
Termite infestations practically cannot exist in NonWoodHouses™ and thus treatments are not needed.
Attic apartment windows made by FAKRO are available.
